About Windermere, Ambleside and Central Lakes
The Central lakes contain the towns of Bowness, Windermere (where there is a rail link) and Ambleside aswell as the Lakeland villages of Grasmere and Coniston. The stunning valley of Langdale (near Ambleside) leads you to the Hardknott and Wrynose passes and eventually across to Eskdale and the West Coast. Lake Windermere is the longest lake in England at 10.5 miles.
